  108. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  109.  
  110.     A.  Manufacturer Qualifications:  Member of the Steel Deck
  111.         Institute.

  113.     B.  Codes and Standards:  Comply with applicable provisions
  114.         of the following specifications:
  115.         1.  American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
  116.         2.  American Welding Society (ANSI/AWS D1.3 Structural
  117.             Welding Code/Sheet Steel).
  118.         3.  Steel Deck Institute (SDI).

  120.     C.  Each welder shall have satisfactorily passed A.W.S.
  121.         Qualification tests for welding processes involved, and
  122.         if applicable, shall have undergone recertification.

  124. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  125.  
  126.     A.  Protect steel deck from corrosion, deformation, and other
  127.         damage during delivery, storage and handling.
  128.  
  129.     B.  If ground storage is needed, store deck bundles off the
  130.         ground, with one end elevated to provide drainage.
  131.         Protect bundles against condensation with a ventilated
  132.         waterproof covering.  Stack bundles so there is no danger
  133.         of tipping, sliding, rolling, shifting or material
  134.         damage.  Check bundles periodically for tightness, and
  135.         retighten as necessary so wind cannot loosen sheets.

  137.     C.  Place deck bundles on the building frame near a main
  138.         supporting beam at a column or wall.  Do not place
  139.         bundles on unbolted frames or on unattached or unbridged
  140.         joists.   Ensure that the structural frame is properly
  141.         braced to receive the bundles.

  146. 2.1 MANUFACTURER

  152. 2.2 MATERIALS

  154.     A.  Steel Roof Deck:  Provide the following type; with depth,
  155.         design thickness, and design configuration in accordance
  156.         with the requirements of the SDI.
  157. NOTE ** Delete 4 of the 5 following paragraphs.
  158.         1.  Intermediate rib (Type F).
  159.         2.  Wide rib (Type B).
  160.         3.  Deep rib (Type N).
  161.         4.  Long span (Types J and H).

  169.     B.  Sheet Steel for Galvanized Roof Deck and Accessories:
  170.         ASTM A 653 Structural Quality, Grade 33 (230 MPa) or
  171.         higher.  Galvanizing:  ASTM A 924 with a minimum coating
  172.         class of G30 as defined in A 653.
  173.  
  174.     C.  Sheet steel for prime-painted roof deck and accessories
  175.         shall conform to ASTM A 611 with a minimum yield strength
  176.         of 33 ksi (230 MPa).  Steel deck shall have a coat of
  177.         manufacturer's standard shop primer paint.
  178. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if no fire-resistant
  179.         units are required.  If retained, insert the UL
  180.         Design Number in the specification or on the
  181.         drawings.

  183.     D.  Where fire resistance rated assemblies are required,
  184.         provide UL-listed units.  Identify steel deck bundles
  185.         with labels bearing the UL mark.

  191.     A.  Furnish ridge and valley plates, flat plates at change of

  197. PART 3  EXECUTION
  198.  
  199. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  200.  
  201.     A.  Examine support framing and field conditions for
  202.         compliance with requirements for installation tolerances
  203.         and other conditions affecting performance of work of
  204.         this section.
  205.  
  206. 3.2 PREPARATION
  207.  
  208.     A.  Place deck in accordance with approved placement plans.
  209.  
  210.     B.  Locate deck bundles to prevent overloading of support
  211.         members.
  212.  
  213. 3.3 INSTALLATION, GENERAL
  214.  
  215.     A.  Do not use deck units as a working platform or storage
  216.         area until units are permanently attached in position.
  217.  
  218.     B.  Do not impose construction loads that exceed load
  219.         carrying capacity of deck.
  220.  
  221.     C.  Install deck panels and accessories according to Steel
  222.         Deck Institute specifications and recommendations, SDI
  223.         Manual of Construction with Steel Deck, and in accordance
  224.         with the placement plans and requirements of this
  225.         Section.
  226.  
  227.     D.  Place deck panels on structural supports and adjust to
  228.         final position with ends lapped or butted over structural
  229.         supports with a minimum end lapped or butted over
  230.         structural supports with a minimum end bearing of 1.5
  231.         inches (40 mm).  Attach the deck panels firmly to the
  232.         supports immediately after placement in order to form a
  233.         safe working platform.
  234.  
  235.     E.  Cut and neatly fit deck and accessories at skew
  236.         conditions, around openings, and at other work projecting
  237.         through or adjacent to the decking.
  238.  
  239.     F.  Do not cut unscheduled openings through the deck without
  240.         the approval of the Architect; reinforce openings as
  241.         directed.
  242.  
  243. 3.4 ATTACHMENT
  244.  
  245.     A.  Anchor deck units to steel supporting members by arc spot
  246.         puddle welds or approved mechanical fasteners.
  247.         1.  Arc spot puddle welds shall be 5/8 inch (15 mm)
  248.             minimum visible diameter with the attachment pattern
  249.             shown on placement drawings.
  250.         2.  Mechanical fasteners, either powder actuated,
  251.             pneumatically driven, or self drilling screws may be
  252.             used in lieu of welding, provided product data has
  253.             been submitted and approved.
  254.  
  255.     B.  Side Lap Attachment:  Fasten side laps of deck units with
  256.         spans greater than 5 feet (1.5 m) at mid span or 36 inch
  257.         (1 m) intervals, whichever distance is smaller, or as
  258.         shown on design drawings using one of the following
  259.         methods:
  260.         1.  #10 self drilling screws.
  261.         2.  Crimp or button punching.
  262.         3.  Arc spot puddle welds 5/8 inch (15 mm) minimum
  263.             visible diameter or 1 inch (25 mm) long arc seam or
  264.             fillet weld.
  265.  
  266.     C.  Perimeter Edge Attachment:  Fasten perimeter edges of
  267.         deck units at minimum 36 inch (1 m) intervals or as shown
  268.         on design drawings using one of the following methods:
  269.         1.  Arc spot puddle welds 5/8 inch (15 mm) minimum
  270.             visible diameter or 1 inch (25 mm) long arc seam or
  271.             fillet weld.
  272.         2.  Mechanical fasteners, either powder actuated,
  273.             pneumatically driven or self drilling screws may be
  274.             used in lieu of welding, provided product data has
  275.             been submitted and approved.
  276.  
  277.     D.  Anchor accessories to supporting members by arc spot
  278.         welds or self drilling screws at 12 inch (300 mm) maximum
  279.         intervals or as shown on design drawings.
  280.  
  281. 3.5 REPAIRS
  282.  
  283.     A.  Before placement of roof insulation and roof covering:
  284.         1.  Inspect the deck for tears, dents, or other damage
  285.             that may prevent the deck from action as a structural
  286.             roof base.
  287.         2.  Repair tears, dents, or other damage.
  288.         3.  Obtain the approval of the Architect.
